The Department of History organised a Student Outreach Programme over November -December 2025 which aimed at raising awareness among students at the senior school level on the career opportunities open to them after pursuing an undergraduate degree in History.
The sessions were conducted by the faculty members of the Department across schools like Loreto House, Loreto Sealdah and Loreto Asansol, where they explained in detail the ways in which studying History as a discipline can provide access to careers in academia, public policy, the civil services-both at the central and at the state level, museum management, corporate archives, journalism and media and in many other related fields. Unusual career choices such as providing expertise to the making of historical films, OTT series and other similar content were also discussed.
The sessions were a learning experience for the students and they had plenty of queries on different career paths. They were better able to identify and define core transferable skills honed by studying History - specifically evidence-based argumentation, source criticism, and narrative synthesis. Further, they recognised that the "Information Age" rewards those who can distinguish between credible information and misinformation—a core historian's skill.
