International Talk Report-Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology, Loreto College in collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Cell of Loreto College had organised an interactive session on January 21, 2026 with Dr. Nilanjana Dasgupta, Professor of Psychology and Director of the Institute of Diversity Sciences at the University of Massachusetts. The theme focussed upon for the session was her book titled 'Change the Wallpaper'. The session started with her introduction by Dr. Sanghita Sanyal and felicitation thereafter. Dr. Dasgupta provided an overview of the book, highlighting how everyday environments subtly shape human behaviour and contribute to social inequalities. She discussed the concept of 'situational nudges' and explained how physical environments, institutional structures, and social settings influence individual choices and outcomes. The relevance of these ideas in the Indian context was also discussed, particularly in relation to inequality and access. The session concluded with an engaging interaction with Dr. Dasgupta and the students and faculty of the Department of Psychology, making the event both insightful and interactive, followed by the formal Vote of Thanks by Ms. Sreeparna Dasgupta.
