Foundation Day Celebrations Report 2026

Foundation Day Celebrations
The Foundation Day was celebrated on 17 February 2026, the actual Foundation Day of the college being 2 February 2012. It is a significant day for the college given its rich history and achievements. This year the celebrations marked 114 years of the college’s existence and the theme was ROOTED IN TRADITION: REACHING FOR EXCELLENCE. The programme began with the inauguration ceremony which included the lighting of the lamp, followed by a prayer dance and prayer service. In order to make the 114 th year memorable, all stakeholders were invited to be a part of the celebrations. The chief guest was Ms Kaveri Dutt, educationist and former member of the Loreto Education Board. The Guest of Honour was Prof. Debashish Biswas, former Inspector of Colleges (IC), University of Calcutta and a well-wisher of the college. The Teacher in Charge, Sister Dr. A. Nirmala presented the Annual Report 2025-26 highlighting the major achievements of the college.  The celebrations included participation of the students as volunteers and contributors in creating a video on the history of the college (made by the Cine Society) as well as participating in a reels/podcast making competition designed exclusively for them. The Women’s Cell was represented by three teachers and four students. One teacher and one student from the Cell shared their experience of being a part of the Loreto Family.
The Alumnae Association of the College played a major role on this day. They donated funds and books to the B.Ed and P.G. library on the 4th Floor and an Alumnae Corner was inaugurated especially to showcase their contribution. A sapling plantation event in the College back lawn was also a part of the celebrations signifying the importance of planting trees and making the College premises clean and green. The Foundation Day committee collaborated with the N.S.S. Unit of the college to organize a health camp which included basic health check-up provisions for the support staff of the college as well as for the community members in the immediate neighbourhood who might be in need of it. This was a gesture made by the college to demonstrate that it does not exist in a vacuum but is a part of its immediate surroundings and the students also learn that they are part of the larger society to which they have a commitment.
All in all it was a meaningful and thoughtful way to celebrate the college.
