A Tribute to the Life of Sumita Ghosh
On February 28, 2026 the Department of Geography organised a meaningful and reverent prayer service for Mrs. Sumita Ghosh. Mrs. Ghosh was a retired professor and former head of the department. She was instrumental in shaping the department through more than three decades of visionary leadership and unparalleled erudition. The event was attended by faculty members of the department, Sr. Dr. A. Nirmala, the Teacher-in-Charge, retired senior colleagues, members of her family, and her dear students. The large presence of generations of Mrs. Ghosh’s students, both in person and online, from the city and from across the world, was a poignant aspect of the service. Through soulful renditions of her favourite Rabindra sangeet, memories captured on photographs, and reminiscences of experiences by her beloved colleagues and students, Mrs. Ghosh’s life and contribution were celebrated. The reflective and commemorative event was brought to a fitting close with warm interactions among the attendees over refreshments about the extraordinary human being that was Mrs. Sumita Ghosh.
