On 5 March 2026, the Department of History organised an interactive session for Semester 1 students with two two alumnae members of the Department, Ahana Sen (Batch of 2024) and Shriyaa Gangoli (Batch of 2025). They explained the basic concept of history and the various schools of historiography. The presentation was a visual one, with valuable information that aided our understanding. The presentation enriched the students’ existing knowledge about the various ways history is defined by both Western and Indian scholars.
The session covered the various schools of historical thought with reference to Indian history with relevant examples and explanations. The session was concluded by an interactive session which facilitated connection between present and past pupils, allowing the former to learn something new about the subject. It helped the students to understand how historical interpretations change over time based on new evidence. They were also able to gain a better insight into how to distinguish between various schools of historical thought. The visual presentation, along with the simple explanation and active interaction, helped them understand the topic in an easy manner.
