Educational Visit to IEM Institute of Fundamental Research (IIFR) Laboratory by the Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science, Loreto College, organized an educational visit to the IEM Institute of Fundamental Research (IIFR) Laboratory on 15th July 2026 for Semester II Geography and Psychology Major students who had opted for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Empowerment as their SEC. The visit was conducted under the guidance and supervision of the faculty members of the Department of Computer Science, providing students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure to contemporary research and applications in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

It was an extremely enriching and insightful visit, during which the students were given a guided tour of the IIFR Laboratory and gained exposure to the cutting-edge technologies being developed there. The students received a demonstration of the student-led research projects,which comprised but were not limited to, advanced drones for navigation and mapping, rovers for traversing difficult terrain, modernized cameras designed to crawl into small spaces for better visibility and optics among many others.

Additionally, a workshop on “Artificial Intelligence & Leadership in the Digital Era” sensitized students to the skyrocketing developments in AI. The session enabled them to gain a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence, prompting them to ponder on innovative ways of leveraging the bounty of AI to incorporate it into their own specific fields. This experience offered the students a glimpse into the future, educating and encouraging them to partake in cross-discipline knowledge sharing and promoting the amalgamation of different fields such as AI, Psychology and Geography.

This highly informative and enlightening visit was concluded by group photographs offering pictorial evidence of the meaningful experience. Though everyone was loath to see the day end, it ultimately wrapped up with a safe and swift return to college, with hearts full of wonderful memories and delight as well as with their thinking caps firmly on. The successful completion of the visit was made possible through the dedicated efforts and guidance of the faculty members, ensuring a valuable learning experience for the students.
