Lecture #5 of the NEP Lecture Series was held on January 15, 2026, via Google Meet, jointly organised by the Indian Association of Life Skills Education (IALSE), Chennai, and the Centre for Life Skills, Loreto College, Kolkata. The session focused on aligning life skills education with the transformative vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The programme opened with remarks by Dr. Suparna B, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Sister A. Nirmala, who emphasized the importance of life skills in fostering employability, adaptability, and resilience. In his Presidential Address, Dr. A. Radhakrishnan Nair highlighted the widening education–employment gap in India and underscored the need to integrate life skills education as a core and mandatory component within the academic framework.

The keynote address by Dr. Sushi Kadanakuppe on “Bridging Education and Employment: Life Skills for a Changing India under NEP 2020” examined youth unemployment, skills mismatch, gender disparities, and structural limitations within the current education system. She argued that the employment crisis is fundamentally a life skills crisis, pointing to deficits in communication, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and stress management. The lecture also addressed implementation challenges under NEP 2020 and proposed an integrated, gender-responsive life skills–employment framework supported by teacher capacity building and stronger industry linkages. The session concluded with an engaging discussion and a vote of thanks by Dr. Gauri Hardikar.
