Reunion of the Department of Political Science 2026

The Department of Political Science, Loreto College, Kolkata, organised its first Departmental Reunion on Saturday, 31st January 2026, from 2:00 p.m. onwards at Loreto College. The reunion was organised with the objective of reconnecting alumnae with their alma mater and celebrating the department’s academic legacy and shared memories.
The Department of Political Science, established in 1981, is one of the oldest departments of Loreto College, Kolkata. Among its earliest faculty members was Dr. Sujata Chowdhury, whose presence at the reunion was significant in reflecting her enduring association with the institution. The reunion marked a significant milestone as the first-ever reunion organised by the department.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Mrs. Sayoni Chowdhuri Patra, Head of the Department of Political Science, who warmly welcomed the alumnae and reflected on the department’s growth and continuity. This was followed by the Lighting of the Lamp by Dr. Sujata Chowdhury, Retired Head of the Department of Political Science, Mrs. Sharmila Mitra Deb, Dr. Sumedha Verma, along with alumni Samreen Khan and Aankita Roy Chowdhury, Treasurer of the Political Science Society.
Cultural performances, including an opening dance and songs, were presented as part of the reunion celebrations. A video presentation showcasing photographs and memories from past batches evoked a sense of nostalgia among the attendees. An Open Mic Session was then held, during which several alumni, including former Student President of Loreto College, Samreen Khan, shared her experiences as a student as well as a Council Head. Faculty members Dr. Sumedha Verma and Professor Shreeparna Dasgupta also addressed the gathering, speaking both as alumnae and as members of the faculty.
Throughout the programme, video bytes were recorded by student volunteers, capturing the reflections and sentiments of the alumni and faculty present at the reunion. The programme concluded with refreshments, providing an opportunity for informal interaction among alumnae, faculty members, and student volunteers.
The reunion was a memorable and successful initiative that strengthened alumni engagement and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to preserving its academic and institutional legacy.
