From Social Sciences to Strategy: Building Careers in Policy, Consulting, and Development

An interactive workshop titled “From Social Sciences to Strategy: Building Careers in Policy, Consulting, and Development” was organized by the Department of History in collaboration with the Career Counselling Cell on 14 March 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, at Room 205. The session was conducted by Ms. Brishti Mukherjee, an alumna of the Department of History, Batch of 2023, currently working as ESG Advisory, KPMG, Mumbai, who shared valuable insights into career pathways that connect social science backgrounds with fields such as public policy, consulting, and development. The workshop aimed to guide students on how academic training in the social sciences can translate into strategic and impactful professional opportunities.

During the session, Ms. Mukherjee discussed emerging career trajectories, the role of policy analysis, and the relevance of consulting and development work in addressing contemporary societal challenges. She also provided practical guidance on building skills, exploring professional opportunities, and preparing for higher studies in related fields. The workshop was highly interactive and enriching, with students actively participating, asking questions, and engaging in discussions about career prospects and academic pathways.

The session proved to be extremely beneficial for students. It was a very enriching learning experience where participants gained deeper insights into public policy, strategies in policy-making, and developmental studies. Students also learned about admissions processes and opportunities for master’s and postgraduate programs in various institutions. Overall, the workshop offered meaningful guidance and helped students better understand future academic and professional possibilities in the policy and development sector.
