Report on One-Day Workshop on “Geoskills Advancement: A One-Day Workshop in Geography for School Educators” held on 25th April 2026

The Department of Geography, Loreto College, organized a one-day workshop titled “Geoskills Advancement: A One-Day Workshop in Geography for School Educators” on 25 April 2026. The workshop was designed to strengthen both conceptual understanding and practical skills in Geography relevant to school-level teaching with a focus on contemporary and application-oriented approaches. The sessions covered important themes such as Remote Sensing and GIS, Statistical Methods in Geography, and Instruments and Measurement Techniques, including hands-on exposure to tools like the prismatic compass, clinometer, Six’s maximum and minimum thermometer, hygrometer, and vernier caliper. These sessions enabled participants to engage with both theoretical concepts and practical demonstrations relevant to classroom and field-based learning.
The workshop was attended by a large number of school educators teaching at the secondary and higher secondary levels from nine institutions: Modern High School for Girls, Loreto Convent Entally, Loreto Day School Bowbazar, Loreto Day School, Dharamtala, La Martiniere for Girls, South Point High School, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Loreto House, Indus Valley World School, and Jewish Girls’ School. The programme provided a valuable platform for professional interaction, exchange of ideas, and enhancement of teaching-learning practices in Geography.
