Session by Teach for India

On 12th September, 2025 the Placement Cell of Loreto College, Kolkata collaborated with Teach for India to present the session - 'Build a Better World: Exploring Social Sector Careers' exclusively for B.Ed and PG students. The session was conducted by Ms. Shivika Seksaria (Senior Manager, Fellowship Recruitment, Teach for India) for about an hour from 1 to 2 p.m. She was also accompanied by an ex-student of Loreto College, who works in the recruitment team of Teach for India. Ms. Seksaria drew the focus of the students to current needs of India. Through a few statistics, she pointed out that among 400 million children, only a meagre percentage find an opportunity to get an education in the country. Proposing Teach for India's vision: "One day, all children will attain an excellent education", she engaged with the students to know their perspectives on the current educational scenario of the country and what change one might want to see within the system. She captured the students' interest and attention by giving practical examples and showing videos of fellows in the Teach for India fellowship programme. The session was made further interactive through an activity, where the presenter showed a number of profiles of past fellows and the students were asked to guess their educational qualifications, prior to becoming fellows. The objective was to make the students realise that there is no specific educational background required to become a fellow. She discussed how the fellows themselves receive individual coaching, mentorship programmes which would help align their careers after completing the two year fellowship. Ms. Seksaria gave a clear perspective on what to expect if any of the students should choose to become a fellow. The presentation was enriching and interactive.
