An Orientation Session on the Modalities of Internship under the Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF-2022) was organized by the Internship Committee, assisted by the Political Science Society for the first-semester students of all departments of Loreto College, Kolkata, on 15 September 2025 (Monday) at 11:45 a.m. The session aimed to familiarize students with the structure, objectives, and requirements of the internship component mandated by the University of Calcutta. It was conducted by faculty members of the college, along with student volunteers from Semesters III and V.
The session commenced with an address by Mrs. Sayoni Choudhuri Patra, Head of the Department of Political Science and Nodal Officer for Internships, who introduced the framework and underscored its significance. This was followed by insightful presentations by the Department Mentors from Dr. Mainak Bhattacharya, Professor and Internship Mentor, Department of Economics; Dr. Sayantani Chatterjee, Head of the Department of Psychology, Internship Mentor, and Co-Nodal Officer; and Ms. Srijita Chakraborty, Professor and Internship Mentor, Department of History. They elaborated on the modalities of internship, evaluation details (3 credits) and role of departmental mentors. They emphasized that the internship is a vital component of academic and professional growth. Each speaker detailed the practical aspects of the program and addressed common queries regarding its implementation.
Students were strongly encouraged to begin preparing their CVs at the earliest, as a prerequisite for securing internships. The departmental mentors assured participants of continuous guidance and support throughout the process, assisting them in identifying suitable opportunities and resolving any challenges that might arise.
Following the formal presentations, student volunteers shared their personal experiences. They highlighted how internships helped them apply classroom learning to real-world situations, enhanced their employability, and developed adaptability to professional environments. Their reflections offered the first-semester students valuable insights into the responsibilities and practical realities of undertaking internships.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which students clarified their doubts regarding procedures and the range of available opportunities. The program ended with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Suhabi Sen (Semester V, Department of Political Science), who expressed gratitude to the speakers and faculty members for their guidance and valuable contributions.
