VIVAAD 2025: A Battle of Minds
The Debating Society of Loreto College organised the second edition of the National Parliamentary Debate Competition- VIVAAD 2025: A Battle of Minds. This was designed to encourage critical thinking and foster a spirit of healthy debate among undergraduate students from across the country. The competition was held in two phases. The preliminary round took place on 6 September 2025, via Google Meet, in which 26 institutions participated. It was adjudicated by Ms. Debomita Dutta and Ms. Oyindrilla Banerjee. The motion for the debate was "TBHT procedural law is inadequate to meet the challenges of the digital world". 8 teams qualified for the final round. The prelims ended with the vote of thanks. The finals took place in the auditorium of Loreto College on 12 September 2025. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by our esteemed adjudicators Mr. Rohit Das, Ms. Rituparna Roy, Mr. Souvik Saha and our staff advisor Ms. Sreeparna Dasgupta, followed by a short prayer by the AICUF society. The motion for finals was "THBT it is in the interests of countries to practice political visa denials". After the judges' gave their valuable insights, the winner teams and best speakers were declared. The best team for Proposition was Jadavpur University, best team for Opposition was St. Xavier's College (Autonomous). The best speaker proposition went to Presidency University and best speaker opposition went to St. Xavier's University. The programme ended with a vote of thanks. VIVAAD 2025 showcased the exceptional talent and eloquence of participants, who tackled complex topics with conviction and critical thinking. These young debaters have demonstrated their potential to shape the future of public discourse.
