World Cities Day Celebration 2025



In celebration of World Cities Day 2025, the Department of Geography, Loreto College, Kolkata in collaboration with Nirmala College, Ranchi, organized an engaging session focused on urban imagination and participatory design. The theme of World Cities Day, 2025 is People- Centred Smart Cities. Students enthusiastically took part in the Dream City Panel activity, where they illustrated their visions of a sustainable and inclusive city through drawings of roads, buildings, and landscapes on a collaborative panel. Prior to the event, the department, in collaboration with the Department of Geography, Nirmala College, Ranchi, jointly organized a National-Level Inter-College Online Digital Poster-Making Competition. The competition was conducted online, allowing participants from various institutions across India to submit their creative posters on themes related to urban planning and sustainability. The winners of this competition were officially announced during the event on 31st October, adding an air of excitement and achievement to the celebration. The esteemed judges of the competition were Dr. Sreerupa Roy, Assistant Professor, Head, Department of Chemistry, Nirmala College Ranchi and Dr. Sukanya Mitra, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Loreto College, Kolkata who provided us with their valuable insights. The posters were evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges, who appreciated the originality and thoughtfulness of the participants. The competition encouraged young minds to express their innovative ideas on sustainable urban futures through visual creativity. The World Cities Day programme beautifully blended creativity, academic curiosity, and collaboration. Students' active participation and innovative ideas reflected their growing awareness of global urban challenges and their role as future geographers in addressing them. The event not only encouraged artistic expression but also reinforced the department's vision of shaping informed and socially responsible individuals ready to engage with real-world geographical issues.
